A Bit of Background
It’s the summer of 1958 in the big metropolis of Crescent City, NY. The Midnight Bluebird, a once-glamorous nightclub shuttered for years under scandal, is reopening its doors tonight. The champagne is flowing, the saxophones are wailing, and the guest list is a powder keg of grudges waiting to explode.
All the stars are here, some sparkling and twinkling, while others are meteoric. The owner of The Midnight Bluebird, Tommy Callahan, is eager to make a splash back into the nightclub scene with his trusty crew. He’s hired famous jazz pianist, Vic Valentine and his band along with the gal with the golden voice, Charlotte Fontaine. The usual suspects are in attendance: social Queen Monarch butterfly Rosalind Delacroix has come with several of her fancy high-society friends, the mayor, Eleanor Voss with her civic-minded close pals, and of course, notorious Frankie Lombardo and his entourage of chums/business associates.
Some of these characters go way back. Old debts, unpaid betrayals, and bitter rivalries hum beneath the surface, louder than the bassline. The drinks are stiff, the music’s hotter, and soon someone will be swinging from the gallows of their own sins. Time to dig through the lies before the last note fades.
